Deck and shed site prep

Every deck, shed and small cabin starts with the same day: strip the sod, level the ground, auger the footing holes and get the excavated material out of the way. By hand that is two people for two days and a wrecked lawn. On the machine it is a visit — sod off, ground cut to level, holes augered, spoil in the box and gone. It is the same day whether we are building what goes on top or somebody else is.

Who buys this

  • Homeowners with a deck, shed or cabin going in
  • Builders who want the dig day off their crew's plate

Sequence on site — in order

  1. Locates cleared where footings are going in.
  2. Footprint set out against your drawing.
  3. Sod and topsoil stripped and stockpiled or boxed off.
  4. Ground cut to level, or to the fall the build calls for.
  5. Footing holes augered on the same visit.
  6. Spoil hauled off in the cargo box and the area left clean.

What deck and shed site prep costs

OPERATED HIRE

What a site-prep visit costs

Quoted per job

Operator included

You are hiring the machine with him on it. He runs it, it stays on his insurance, and nothing about the work transfers to you.

Operator
Included
You are buying hours of work with him running the machine. Nothing is released to you and no liability transfers.
Minimum charge
Stated with your date
Every hire has one. You see the figure when we confirm the date — never after the work.
Float — machine to site and back
Charged separately
Mobilisation is its own line, not something buried in the hourly rate. Georgian Bay and Muskoka distances are real and we would rather show them than hide them.
Attachment changes on site
No second visit
The quick-attach is the point of this machine: augering, grading and hauling can all happen on the same visit.
Spoil removal
Boxed and hauled
The 2,000 lb cargo box means the excavated material leaves with the machine instead of sitting on your lawn until someone deals with it.

Before we roll

  • Access measured — the narrowest gate, gap or lane the machine has to pass.
  • Ground condition agreed — lawn, septic bed, new sod and soft spring ground are settled before the day, not discovered on it.
  • Somewhere for the spoil — off site, stockpiled, or spread. It has to go somewhere.
  • Locates cleared where anything is being dug (Ontario One Call — five business days).

HST shown as its own line. Price honoured as quoted.

Book the machine

Tell us the site and roughly what needs doing. We reply with a date and what it will take — hours, minimum and float shown before you commit.

No obligation — we reply within one business day.

How it is sold

By the hour, with a minimum — or as a line inside the build quote when we are doing both.

WHAT MOVES IT

The slope decides it. A flat lot is a short visit; a lot that falls a metre across the footprint is not.

Also part of — Decks

When we are building the deck, this day is a line in the deck quote rather than a separate hire.

Custom Decks

Sheet A-514 — Typical job

What a typical pad looks like

  • A shed or deck footprint on a sloped cottage lot.
  • Sod stripped, high side cut down, low side made up.
  • Footing holes augered while the machine is already there.
  • Half a day to a day, against two days of hand digging.

The machine is new to the business this season, so there are no record photographs filed against it yet. What is on file is the finished decks work it feeds — 4 records below.

Before we can book it — 05 questions

A-514.01Footprint
The size and position of the build, and how level it actually has to be.
A-514.02Access
The narrowest gate or gap between the road and the pad.
A-514.03Locates
Required wherever footings are dug. Five business days.
A-514.04Spoil and sod
Whether it stays on the property or leaves with us.
A-514.05Who builds on top
Ours or yours. Either is fine; it changes the schedule, not the work.
Locates first — five business days

Anything that goes into the ground needs locates first. Ontario One Call gives the locators five business days, so a dig booked on Monday is not a dig that happens on Tuesday. We file the request; you do not have to.

04 RECORDS

The decks this machine feeds

These are finished decks jobs from the book, photographed as they wrapped up. None of them were taken with the machine — it has not been here a full season yet. They are on this sheet because they are the work the machine is bought to serve: When we are building the deck, this day is a line in the deck quote rather than a separate hire.
